Simplicity and flexibility are the
keys to the success of this system. Suitable for use anywhere from a single site
to multiple sites in different locations, Meditrak offers outstanding security,
reliability and ease of use in tracking and auditing blood products.
Unique identification for patients
Working on a barcode system, labels are generated for each patient when blood is taken, a barcoded wristband given and labels generated for the blood bank with information such as:
- Patient name
- Date of Birth
- Blood type
- NHS number or some unique identification
This will then be scanned on the ward before blood is administered and should match the label attached to the cross-matched blood.
Easy tracking and auditing
for blood banks
Step 1
Blood products received from National Blood Transfusion Service. Cross matching takes place and barcoded labels generated during testing are attached.

For more information.
Step 2
Hospital staff remove required blood by first scanning their ID card. Magnetic locks on the blood bank/fridge are released allowing entry. Blood product is removed and identification barcode is scanned. Blood is taken to ward.
See meditrak-scanstation PDF
For more information.
Step 3
Patient barcode on wristband scanned using handheld PDA. If it matches, blood is administered. Therefore, giving the right blood to the right patient at the right time.
