developed by Medisoftware Ltd in conjunction with the
Portsmouth Hospitals Trust Haematology Department to meet the day to day demands
of a busy Blood Bank.
Using tracking and barcode scanning technology familiar for the monitoring of
paper data movements, the systems has been developed to meet both the needs of
the department and standards required for accreditation.
The Haematology Department at Queen Alexandra Hospital has worked in conjunction
with Medisoftware Ltd in the development of the system across two sites. This
has allowed the system to be developed as requirements arose using simple software
updates and has meant that is
tailored to meet the daily challenges faced by a large blood bank servicing multiple
sites.
As
noted in previous SHOT reports, we believe that information technology has great
potential to improve patient safety.
